GOAL: To
identify priority areas for outcome measurement. Within
priorities, to recommend a tool that will 1) track progress
of a child or youth while in treatment; and 2) allow the system to
collect data on treatment effectiveness. Preferred tool
would be recommended to the
Arkansas Children's Behavioral Health Care
Commission and be adopted by the state to report outcomes to
better understand child and system progress.
NOTE: this is NOT to be confused with tools used for
diagnostic assessment; rather, these would be utilized once
a child has entered into treatment.
1) What do we want to know about a child and his/her family
to determine progress? What are the “priority outcomes” the
system should track?
2) Within defined “outcome” priorities: What are the
pros/cons of each tool with regard to the following?
- Desired outcomes for children, youth and their
families?
- Ease of use by professionals?
- Clinical usefulness to providers?
- Cost?
- Others?
3) What are the tradeoffs with regard to tracking
effectiveness versus additional responsibility for
providers? What is reasonable to expect and require?
4) Do outcomes/ the “preferred tool” reflect System of Care
principles?
(e.g. child/family-driven and youth-guided, community-based,
culturally competent?)
If not, what needs to be added/changed?
5) Do outcomes/ our preferred tool help us to move toward
the following system improvements?
(Note: these were “decision parameters” identified during
the first meetings of the SOC Stakeholders Planning
Committee)
